Goryu & 47 / ◎300cm / Cloudy2021.Jan.23
Hakuba Goryu is open for sunrise (early morning) and night skiing/snowboarding, although many Japanese ski resorts are reducing opening hours. (Sunrise skiing/snowboarding: Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays until Sunday, Mar.28, Night skiing/snowboarding: everyday until Sunday, Mar.21) It stopped raining today. Lights for night skiing/snowboarding looked beautiful in the fog when I skied down Toomi area from the top.
Fine granular snow was tightly packed on Toomi Slope (pictured). I enjoyed gaining speed, getting my skis on edge. However, I had poor visibility in the fog.
The snow was getting loose after many people skied and snowboarded. Powder Snow Course, Soft Cream Course, and Maryland Course (open only on Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays), opened on time at 8 am. The groomed granular snow was well packed, and nicely wet on the surface.
“The 36th Shizuoka Technical Skiing Championships” was held on three courses: Straight Whiskey, Cosmo River, and Snow Diving Course. By the way, a staff member in Rest House Iimori was confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus. Thus, shops on the first floor, including Restaurant Chandor, the kiosk, and the rental shop, have been temporarily closed.
