Hakuba Iwatake / Rainy & Cloudy2018.Aug.11

The sky looked gloomy although it was the third “Mountain Day” (national holiday). A test ride of ROSSIGNOL mountain bikes, a well-known ski company, is being held in front of the Bike Center until Aug.12 (Sun). There are six MTB models of FELT company, including those for Downhill, Enduro, and Trail, there. You can also try E-BIKE (shown in the photo), which we often see in magazines etc. these days, only on the course (for free, an identification and a written pledge are required).

In addition, it was a “Hakuba Iwatake MTB PARK Girls Bikers DAY” today. All MTB tickets were available at a half-price and drink tickets were distributed for free for ladies. I saw female bikers lightly going on Alps Downhill Course in spite of the poor visibility due to the clouds.

Hybrid lilies were at their best along Beech Forest Walking Trail. I heard the sound of rain falling on leaves but I didn’t get wet. lilies on the southern slope were “getting out of bloom”, however, I could appreciate colorful lilies, including yellow, pink and white ones, on the side of the gondola.

A sale has started in the lily market at the foot. It’s a big bargain; you can get 5 pots of Sukashi-yuri (Thunbeng lilies) for 1,000 yen (1 pot for 500 yen as usual) and 5 pots of Hybrid lilies for 2,000 yen (1 pot for 1,000 yen as usual). Sukashi-yuri flowers are for the next year because almost all of them have already bloomed. On the other hand, you can enjoy hybrid lilies soon because they are still in bud.

“HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR”, which will open this autumn, was being under construction, as I went further on Beech Forest Walking Trail. “THE CITY BAKERY”, a popular long-standing bakery, is also going to open in its terrace. It will be a new tourist spot, where you can have coffee and bread, enjoying a full view of the Northern Alps.
