Heavy snowfall brought by the strongest and longest cold wave of the season from 1/20 (Tue.) to 1/26 (Mon.) completely changed the tone of what had been shaping up as a low-snow winter, and setting the stage for a strong February. Clear blue skies greeted the morning of 2/4 (Wed.), which marked the start of spring on the traditional Japanese calendar. Before operations began, the area around the Myoko Kogen Sky Cable base station lay quietly under a blanket of pure white snow, creating a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere (pictured).

On the Hotel B Course (pictured), which was groomed into moderately firm powder snow, I was able to set my edges confidently and link turns exactly as intended. A skier I met who lives in Myoko City told me, “I always check Snownavi. Yesterday the slopes were a bit too soft, but today they feel just right and really enjoyable. To everyone watching Snownavi—Myoko has plenty of great snow right now!”

The Joshi Kokutai Course and Champion B Course shared the same powder snow conditions as Hotel B. The Champion C Course (pictured) featured moderately soft groomed powder. Meanwhile, the ungroomed Champion A Course (average pitch 17°, maximum 32°, 1,200 m long) was covered top to bottom with irregular medium- to large-sized moguls that weren’t overly firm, making it a challenging yet approachable run.

The luxury spa at Akakura Kanko Hotel,Heavenly View Earth SPA, is also open to day visitors. With the “Day-Use Plan: Lunch, Onsen & SPA,” guests enjoy a 60-minute body treatment in a private room (pictured), lunch at Aqua Dining, and access to the hotel’s large bath with free-flowing open-air hot springs, all for ¥24,800 to ¥27,000. Spending the morning skiing, then relaxing at the hotel after lunch while taking in snowy mountain views, is another great way to enjoy the day.
