The IWATAKE SNOW PARK (pictured) is located on the incredibly scenic Mountain Side of Hakuba Iwatake, and as a result, boasts the best views of any snow park in the HAKUBA VALLEY. The park has been open this season since 1/27 (Sat.), and today was the second consecutive day of clear, sunny skies.

At the park this morning, I spoke with a crew of diggers, who told me, “We love your site! Since the opening day we’ve had loads of people enjoying the park daily. We haven’t had much snow yet, so we’ve been unable to build the kickers and other elements up high, but we’ll make sure they’re in good shape and we’re looking forward to seeing you all soon.” The legendary park really is well maintained, and is still going strong this season!

The current lineup consists of: an 8m kicker, 2 x 3m kickers, a narrow box, rail, hip, wave, transfer PVC, box, PVC, flat up rail, 2 x flat rails, snow box, flat box, down flat rail, and a flat rail. The South Slope itself was groomed widely and featured a nice and firm powder snow surface.

Conditions were also pleasant on the East Slope (pictured) and VIEW C, with similarly firm, groomed powder snow bases. The top and bottom of the Sunny Valley Course had moderately firm groomed powder snow, while the groomed surface along the middle section had firmer wet snow because of the presence of artificial snow mixed into the snowpack. It goes without saying that there were no exposed bushes or areas of thin snow cover anywhere from top to bottom, so conditions were very comfortable.
