Kurohime REPORT

2026.09.05Kurohime Flower Garden / Partly Cloudy

Even before talking about the cosmos flowers or the dog run, it is worth saying that Kurohime Kogen is, above all, a beautiful highland retreat filled with fresh mountain air. The broad, graceful slopes of Mt. Kurohime (pictured, background), also known as “Shinano Fuji,” spread out across a wonderfully open landscape, and it’s just enjoyable spending time there. In regards to the flowers, the cosmos and dahlias inside the Kurohime Flower Garden seemed to have reached their peak on 9/5 (Sat.).

The garden features 10 varieties of cosmos (pictured, background) and 60 varieties of dahlias (pictured, foreground), all of which were in full, vibrant bloom. Cosmos have been cultivated here for more than half a century and fill the garden in impressive numbers, while the dahlias come in an extraordinary range of colors and forms. Both make for a spectacular display in their own unique way. The ongoing “Dahlia Popularity Vote 2026” will also award five people, selected by lottery, free admission to the “Dahlia Tuber Digging Experience” on 10/12 (Mon., public holiday).

The skies were overcast this morning when the garden opened at 10 a.m., but as the clouds gradually broke and sunlight began filtering through, the flowers became even more vivid. Daytime temperatures hovered around a very comfortable 23°C, and the low humidity made conditions feel especially pleasant. The cosmos are expected to remain at their best through late September, while the many varieties of dahlias should continue blooming into early October.

Lake Nojiri (pictured, center) could be seen clearly from the upper part of the Kurohime Flower Garden. An open area with benches, a small rest shelter, and a swing is located at the very top of the garden. Visitors can now also take part in a “Sunflower Picking Experience” in the sunflower area at the bottom of the garden. (※¥1,000 for 10 flowers, limited to the first five participants.) Anyone joining the “Kurohime Kogen Exploration Rally 2026,” running through 10/12 (Mon., public holiday), will also be entered into a lottery for one of five 1-day lift tickets for the 2026–27 winter season.
