Kurohime Kogen is home to the spacious indoor dog run “Naka” (pictured) which is also fully air-conditioned, making it a wonderfully cool place to escape the summer heat! Dogs and their owners steadily arrived throughout the morning on 8/8 (Sat.), the day of the Paw Print Festival, creating a lively atmosphere. On both 8/8 (Sat.) and 8/9 (Sun.), visitors can receive a free “access pass” for all of the facilities simply by completing a short questionnaire at the special event tent in the Dog Area parking lot.

The indoor dog run is not the only highlight. The Pool Zone (pictured) features two pools, one large and one small, both equipped with ramps so that even dogs unfamiliar with the water can enter easily. The forecast turned out better than expected this morning, 8/8 (Sat.), bringing ideal conditions for a day out, and plenty of dogs, especially the larger breeds, could be seen splashing around happily in the water.

The outdoor dog run “Soto” (pictured) is a vast open space where dogs of all sizes can run to their hearts’ content. I met a couple from Joetsu City (pictured) who told me, “We come to Kurohime often, both in summer and winter. Coco (pictured, left) and Lala (pictured, right) are five-year-old siblings. They’re middle-aged, but still full of energy!” One section of the area is also set aside specifically for small dogs.
[Dog Area・Outdoor Dog Run “Soto”]

In front of Maeyama Plaza, the “Paper Leash Race” was putting the bond between dogs and their owners to the test. Participants attached a paper leash and made their way out and back through a slalom course together. (※Participation is free. Those completing the course without tearing the paper receive a special keychain!) Around 13 to 14 stalls lined the parking area (pictured), selling meat- and fish-based dog treats, apparel and accessories, as well as tote bags and caps embroidered with customers’ own dogs.
