This morning, I met a season pass holder from Joetsu City (pictured) who told me, “Today is my 100th day on the slopes at Akakura Onsen. Since yesterday, I’ve been running a setup that works well in slushy spring snow.” For the final two days of the season—3/30 (Mon.) and 3/31 (Tue.)—only the Kumado No. 1 Quad is operating, with skiing limited to the Panorama, Family, and Karamatsu courses.

A quiet start to the day created a classic spring skiing atmosphere with a relaxed, unhurried feel, and all three courses had soft, groomed granular snow. Surface dirt was visible and there was some drag because of the moisture, but snow coverage was still strong, and the snow skied well overall.

A family from Osaka Prefecture (pictured) told me, “We’ve seen Snownavi before.” The mother added, “We’re staying in Akakura Onsen for three days starting today. I haven’t skied here since my student days when I competed in alpine skiing. This trip will be our last ski trip of the season.”

This season turned out to be warmer with less snowfall than last year. Still, Akakura Onsen Ski Resort opened as scheduled on 12/13 (Sat.), reached full operation (80% or more terrain open) on 12/27 (Sat.), and maintained a base depth of over 200 cm from 1/8 (Thu.) onward. Thank you for following this season’s reports, and we hope to see you again next winter.
