The Long course features 960 meters of total elevation gain. Just when runners finally reached the base and the terrain appeared to level out, the route began climbing again shortly after Nozawa Onsen Sports Park (pictured). By this stage, many competitors had understandably slowed, with the strain of the course clearly beginning to show.

Conditions at the base made the challenge even tougher, with hazy sunshine bringing warmer temperatures and quickly draining runners’ energy. For competitors in the Short division, the steep switchbacks leading toward the Nagasaka slopes (pictured) marked the final major test. Those in the Long division, meanwhile, still faced the second half of the race, including the journey toward Lake Hokuryu.

The winning times were 47 minutes 2 seconds for the men’s Short division and 56 minutes 28 seconds for the women’s, while the men’s and women’s Long divisions were won in 2 hours 15 minutes 48 seconds and 2 hours 31 minutes 7 seconds, respectively. At the finish line in the ski resort parking lot (pictured), runners celebrated in their own way, breaking into broad smiles or raising their arms as they crossed the line.

Before the awards ceremony began, finishers gathered on the podium to take commemorative photos (pictured).
