Tsugaike REPORT

2026.10.02Tsugaike Nature Park / Mostly Sunny

The gondola climbed above the clouds, revealing clear skies for the third day in a row. A high-pressure system is forecast to extend in from the west and move slowly eastward over the Sea of Japan, bringing with it sunshine through the weekend. As soon as I reached the Watasuge Marsh this morning, I found myself instinctively reaching for my camera to capture the brilliantly colored mountains.

“Everywhere you look is picture-perfect,” said a photographer I met at the entrance to the Watasuge Marsh. With the fall colors at their peak and the skies clear, I saw plenty of hikers carrying large cameras. Around 9 a.m., clouds began drifting up and casting patches of shadow across the slopes ablaze with fall color (pictured), creating one of the most memorable scenes of the morning.

By around 10 a.m., the clouds had cleared again, giving us a crisp view of the Hakuba Sanzan peaks from the Tenbo Marsh. I met a family from Aichi Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “We always read your reports. We came in mid-October last year and missed the peak colors, so we decided to come earlier this year. It’s absolutely beautiful! By the way, can you recommend somewhere good to eat?” Well, for those sorts of recommendations, be sure to check out Snownavi’s FOOD&SHOPS! (※Don’t worry, I gave them some recommendations in person.)

A woman from Saitama Prefecture whom I met at Yase-One told me, “I thought I might be a little early, but the fall colors are beautiful. I especially love the orange maples around here (pictured).” I was also greeted by a number of people telling me they always read Snownavi’s reports today.
