Iwatake REPORT

2026.08.10Hakuba Iwatake / Partly Cloudy

This morning, as the clouds gradually cleared, the sun came out in force. Yet, thanks to the shade created by large canopies and the cool air provided by the pleasant breeze, the Skyark Deck Cafe (pictured) was so comfortable it was tempting to linger. By the way, the Hakuba DELI BBQ offers the chance to enjoy a barbecue in this relaxing setting, and it’s as simple as making a reservation by 5 p.m. the day before. (*Tables not reserved for BBQs are available for general use.)

Before the resort’s opening, a long queue had already formed at the Base Center around the ticket counters and gondola entrance. The reception desk at the Summit Guide Center was also busy throughout the day. The Mountain Carts (pictured) and MTB “Hitotoki Downhill Experience” were proving equally popular, with cheers regularly ringing out and clouds of dust rising from the courses.

A family from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured), who were playing with their dog at the Nezuko Forest dog run, called out to me, “Oh, it’s Snownavi! We always read your reports. Iwatake is busy even in summer, isn’t it? Is there anywhere down in the village you’d recommend visiting with a dog?” I suggested Goldy’s, near JR Hakuba Station.

A steady cool breeze and expansive mountain views made the ride on the 5-sen South lift especially refreshing today. At Hakuba Hitotoki-no-Mori, the free “Scenic Relaxation Yoga” session began at 10 a.m., with participants listening to the instructor as they slowly stretched and relaxed. (*Yoga is also scheduled for 8/15, 8/16, 8/30, and 9/19 to 9/22.)
