I headed to Iwatake today to enjoy the first touch of autumn in the air. Whether walking around the summit or riding one of the available attractions, the open mountain setting and cool, fresh air made it a wonderfully refreshing place to spend the day. Despite being a Monday, the resort was lively with summer holiday visitors, and the Buggy Cruise (pictured), which takes guests to a series of scenic viewpoints with a guide at the wheel, was proving especially popular.

I met a family from Tokyo at the Hakuba Giant Swing (pictured) who told me, “We’ve been here to ski before, but this is our first time at Iwatake in summer. Our daughter (pictured) loves this kind of thing, and this is already her second time on the swing today! Now she wants to try the Mountain Carts.” On her second ride, she looked completely at ease, smiling and striking a pose for the camera.

Another mother visiting with her family from Ishikawa Prefecture (pictured) told me, “This is our first visit to Iwatake, and we came to make some summer holiday memories. Our daughter has been horseback riding a few times before, but never at an elevation like this.” After the ride, her daughter (pictured) said, “It wasn’t scary. Being up so high felt great, and the views were amazing!”

The grass had recently been cut on the Hitotoki Downhill Course (pictured) and Alps Downhill Course at Hakuba Iwatake MTB PARK, giving riders excellent visibility along both trails. Construction has also begun on a new lift beside 5-sen South. A work area has been set up next to the lift station (pictured, lower left), and both the dog run and Nezuko Forest have been closed since 8/17 (Mon.) while trees are cleared for the project.
