Nomugitoge REPORT

2026.02.2385 cm / Partly Sunny

This morning, I met a couple from Tokyo (pictured) who told me, “We always check your reports! Yesterday we skied Mt. Norikura, and today we’re at Nomugitoge. We come here every year—the long downhill runs are the big draw.” And yes, that long downhill is indeed one of the resort’s highlights. However, April-like warmth combined with last night’s rain accelerated the snowmelt, and on the final day of the three-day weekend, Panorama and Tate-mizu no Saka had to close due to lack of snow.

On the Rabbit Course and Champion Course (pictured), the groomed wet snow had softened, allowing my edges to bite deeply while my skis still ran well. Poles were later placed on the slopes to mark off spots where dirt had begun to show, so other than that, the skiing was not significantly affected. Champion 2 had similar conditions, and felt busier than usual.

I then took the Skyliner down to reach the lower slopes. The Training Slope, Family Slope, and Bambi Slope (pictured) were all groomed with soft wet snow. Because relatively few skiers were setting hard edges on the Family and Bambi slopes, the surface remained smooth and flat for much of the day. Just below is Bambi Terrace (pictured, background), a convenient spot for a short break.

On the ungroomed upper slopes, the Mine-no-hara (pictured, background) and the Yuriwari Course had expanding patches of exposed ground, and the firm, uneven surface made them challenging. The Jukai Course (pictured, foreground) offered a groomed, soft wet snow surface. At 1,200 m long with an average slope angle of 12 degrees, it’s ideal for beginners and also serves as a bypass route around Champion and Mine-no-hara.
