Ishiuchi Maruyama REPORT

2026.03.21130 cm / Sunny

This morning, two visitors from Tokyo riding the Kanko No. 3 Express with me commented, “The Kan-Etsu Expressway was quiet in the middle of the three-day weekend. There was no snow on the local roads either, so it was an easy drive.” Near the summit (pictured), the groomed granular snow was mixed with moist snow and had about 1 cm of fresh snow on top. Incidentally, if you continue straight from here, you’ll reach the gondola boarding area at GALA Yuzawa.

The Marchen Course (pictured), which bypasses the Summit Slope (max 35°, average 15°), was groomed firm with packed granular snow. I saw advanced skiers making playful lines along the side banks as they descended. There was a slightly narrow section near the end of the Sunrise Line, but aside from that, I did not see any exposed dirt, bushes, or other narrow spots on the groomed runs.

The second floor of The Veranda Ishiuchi Maruyama features a café (pictured) and an observation terrace (fourth photo). With the fireplace lit and the heating running, the café felt warm and very comfortable. If you plan to use the dome tents, check-in is handled on the first floor.

Out on the observation terrace (pictured), I heard comments like, “Wow, the view is incredible,” and “There’s still quite a bit of snow left.” In the cool but not overly cold air typical of this time of year, I relaxed with a café latte and took in the view. The clouds that had been lingering early in the morning gradually cleared, and the sky turned fully sunny.
