The start of the day brought calm, cloudy skies with occasional sunshine. First thing in the morning, the Ginza Slope (pictured), Sunrise Line, and Sailer Course featured groomed granular snow that had softened just slightly. With the skis running well, I enjoyed a pleasant warm-up run using the Sunrise Express.

The Daimaruyama Slope (pictured; max 30°, average 13°, 500 m) had a moderately firm, groomed moist snow base. As I skied down, patches of granular snow began to mix in, and by the time I entered the Daimaruyama Bypass it had transitioned to moderately firm groomed granular snow. The lower Paradise Course and the Green Course, which had similar moderately firm groomed granular snow, were uncrowded.

At Rokka (pictured), which opened in autumn 2023 and sits among the buildings along the Grand Terrace observation area, you can enjoy original dishes themed around snow-country food culture, as well as Niigata’s famous “Shokudo Misa” miso ramen (JPY1,300), one of the most popular menu items. During my visit, I also saw people taking out the “Koji and Lassi Soft Cream” (JPY600), made with amazake produced using only koji from the local sake Hakkaisan.

At the Minamiuonuma City Gungho Monster Pipe (pictured), which will close for the season on 3/16 (Mon.), a big jump had formed. This weekend is packed with events, including fireworks and “The Veranda Ishiuchi Maruyama Night Terrace Operation” (both on 3/14), “Kids’ Ski Day” (3/15), and an “AMJAM TEST RIDE 2026” (3/14 to 16).
