Before the lifts opened today, multiple staff were spreading ammonium sulfate on the lower part of the Wakaguri Central Slope to help preserve the snow that had been pushed into place to keep the route open. The Rabbit Course (pictured) featured groomed corn snow that had already loosened into a fully granular surface from the start of the day.

The upper mogul course along the Alps No. 5 High-Speed Pair, which had been closed for maintenance until yesterday, reopened today. The lower half, where dirt was widely exposed, was not skiable, but the upper half (pictured) had deep, large bumps that were fun to attack. The cross course below remained open.

I met a family from Gifu Prefecture (pictured) who told me, “We always read Snownavi! Today is our 46th day skiing at Hakunori this season. Our daughters made their debut on the Sky View Slope this season! We’ll be back again next season as a family.” The older daughter (pictured, in yellow) added, “I can ski with my skis parallel now!”

With the Hakunori Family Course closing yesterday, operations today were limited to two runs: the Rabbit Course and the Wakaguri Central Slope. A patrol member told me, “Today is the final day for the Alps No. 5 High-Speed Pair. Tomorrow, only the No. 4 Pair will run, and we’ll be operating just the Wakaguri Central Slope. The snow is melting quickly, but it looks like we’ll make it to the final day.”

*The Alps No. 1 Pair ended operations on 3/27 (Fri.), and the Alps No. 5 High-Speed Pair will shut down on 3/28 (Sat.).
