With the Togakushi mountain range rising behind them, I met a group of four skiers from Nagano City (pictured) who often visit Togakushi, and they told me, “We always read your reports. The snow today is fantastic! It feels just like midwinter.” In fact, the Panorama Course (pictured) and the Shirakaba Course both had firm, groomed packed powder bases with a slight bit of moisture, and a nice powdery feel.

The Dream Course (pictured, foreground) and the Menou Course (pictured, background) also offered groomed packed powder with that same slightly moist, powdery feel. I dropped into the freshly groomed corduroy first thing in the morning and was impressed by how good the snow quality was. The excellent conditions continued from the Togakky C Course all the way down to the base area, and even on the gentler slopes my skis carried speed easily.

I ran into two skiers from Komoro City (pictured) who commented, “This is our first time at Togakushi Ski Resort. It’s awesome! The snow quality is great and it’s perfect for carving.” The Shakunage Course (pictured) and the Osen-sui Course both had groomed packed powder surfaces with a bit of moisture. On both runs, a few small snow clumps had formed around the tracks that had already been cut into the surface.

During my runs, I didn’t see any noticeably thin spots of snow or exposed ground anywhere on the mountain. By the way, this weekend is packed with events: the “Togakushi Masters Series 11” takes place on 3/13 (Fri.), the resort will host the “SAVREQ Snow Community Meetup” on 3/14 (Sat.) along with a White Day sweets giveaway, “Sunset Coffee,” and a “Rock–Paper–Scissors Contest with Togakky.” Then on 3/15 (Sun.), the resort will celebrate “Kids Ski Day.”
