2024.02.12255cm / Snow Clouds

Following yesterday’s big dump, another round of pre-dawn snowfall last night resulted in 10 to 15 cm of new snow! The upper portion of Route 1 (pictured) was groomed with a moderately firm powder surface that was covered with 15 cm of fluffy new snow. The first snowboarder off the lift (pictured) told me he was a fan of Snownavi as he passed, sending up a cloud of snow behind him as he went down.

The falling snow waned in intensity around 8:00 a.m., and the clouds slowly faded from the eastern sky, allowing rays of sunshine to reach the slopes. In typical three-day weekend fashion, visitors turned out early, and as of 9:30 a.m., the parking lot on the Euclid side was almost full, while about half of the parking spots on the west side of the gondola base station were occupied. I was able to repeat turns comfortably on the lower part of Route 8 (pictured), which had a moderately firm groomed powder snow base.

About 15 cm of new snow covered the well-packed moguls of various sizes on the ungroomed Route 3 (pictured), and the Tree Riding Zone had between 10 to 15 cm of new snow on top of a reasonably-packed, uneven powder snow base. The new snow in both areas provided a cushion that made the challenging courses more manageable. Route 5 and Route 6 were also in nice groomed condition, with moderately soft powder snow surfaces.

The FOSSIL SNOWBOARD test-ride event took place yesterday and continues today on the east side of the gondola Line-8 summit station. (*Starting 9:00 a.m., free of charge, ID required) I spoke with one of the staff members (pictured), who told me, “We brought the latest models of FOSSIL SNOWBOARD and FOURS SNOWBOARD. Our ALL MOUNTAIN models are quite popular these days. Please come and give them a try.” There was about 10 cm of light, fresh snow on the groomed lower part of Route 1, which had a well-pressed wet snow base.
