When reporting, I usually aim for clear days with mountain views, but for my own personal walks, I find that misty, cloudy days have their own charm. This morning, the blue sky visible at 6:00 a.m. gradually grew overcast, and by the time I got off the first Tsugaike Ropeway and entered the Mizubasho Marsh around 8:45 a.m. (pictured), it was mostly cloudy—and refreshingly cool. A visitor center staff member recommended, “In summer, clouds build up quickly over the mountains. Staying overnight at Tsugaike Sanso to catch the cloud-free early morning views might be a good idea.”

In the Mizubasho Marsh, the bright yellow miyama kinpoge buttercups and the white flowers of karamatsu-so stood out. At the Watasuge (pictured) and Ukishima Marshes, the number of Nikko-kisuge daylilies increased, and the watasuge cotton grass seed heads began to appear. Above all, the lush green of the trees and marshes was stunning, and the more I walked, the more my spirits lifted.

Beyond Ukishima Marsh, there were times when the area was enveloped in fog (pictured), and with a gentle southwest breeze, it felt very cool—so much so that standing still for a long time made me feel chilly. Along the route connecting the marshes, there were plenty of flowering maizuru-so, tsumatori-so, and akamono. By the way, the restroom around the river was completed yesterday, 7/10 (Thu.), and is available for use starting today.
