The fresh green of spring has arrived along with “Breakfast in the Sky,” which is being held on weekends and holidays this year from 5/3 (Sat., holiday) to 10/26 (Sun.)! While it was slightly overcast this morning during the 8:00 a.m. ride on the No. 5 High-Speed Pair Lift (pictured), the skies soon cleared and the surrounding greenery became vibrant and beautiful. Also, at the Hakuba Norikura Ski Slope Ranch (pictured, foreground), you can freely interact with Jersey cattle and sheep, and you can even try your hand at feeding the animals, starting at 8:15 a.m. (free, self-service, limited quantity available).

Those participating in Breakfast in the Sky choose a drink—coffee, tea, or apple juice—before getting on the lift at the boarding area for the No. 11 Pair (pictured). A staff member then lowers the safety bar fitted with a small table and places your breakfast box and drink on it (for menu details, please refer to last year’s report). The lift spans a distance of around about 1,200 meters and runs very smoothly with hardly any vibration. With a ride time of 18 minutes, participants can enjoy a relaxed and leisurely, high-flying breakfast.

As I rode the lift higher, the snow-covered Northern Alps came into view on the left, creating a stunning contrast against the fresh spring green in the foreground—so striking that I often found myself pausing mid-bite just to take it all in. Nearing the top, patches of lingering snow could also be seen beneath the lift line, and the air felt noticeably fresher and crisper.

I had about 20 minutes to spend at the summit plaza, and I observed my fellow participants from a bus tour relaxing, enjoying the scenery, sipping coffee, and taking commemorative photos. One woman from Osaka (first photo, second from the right) shared, “Breakfast with that view tasted incredible. I’m also glad it wasn’t too cold.”
