The light rain that had been falling since yesterday morning had mostly stopped by this morning, but thick fog hung over the resort’s mid to upper slopes. I spoke with a snowboarder from Aichi Prefecture (pictured) who told me, “I always follow updates from Snownavi! I’m meeting friends here at Tsugaike, and we’re planning to head north through Honshu and tour ski resorts in Tohoku through the end of the year.” Visitor numbers built slowly today, making for a quiet, unhurried morning.

Along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair (pictured), the surface of the well-set, moist groomed snow had taken on some moisture. It felt pretty smooth and my skis ran well, making for easy, enjoyable turns. However, there were moments when the fog became so dense that the snow surface was hard to see, so I had to keep my speed in check.

The Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) had similar conditions, with a lightly moist groomed surface that skied smoothly. Although much of Japan experienced two bouts of spring-like warmth—on 12/20 (Sat.) & 12/21 (Sun.) and again on 12/24 (Wed.) & 12/25 (Thu.)—Tsugaike is equipped with the latest snowmaking systems all the way to the top. As a result, there were absolutely no bushes or thin snow spots on either Tsuga-no-mori or along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair.

Along the midsection of the Han-no-ki Slope, grooming covered about half the width of the run down to the junction with the One Course, while the lower section of Han-no-ki and the Karamatsu Slope remained ungroomed. While the surface was mostly flat, scattered bushes were visible, so I skied with a bit of caution. By the way, starting at 10 a.m. today, the ashiyu footbath next to the gondola base station will host the “HAKUBA CHRISTMAS DJ PARTY 2025” event (free admission).
