Starting from the Hakuba Goryu Alpine Botanical Garden—home to over 300 species of alpine plants at an elevation of around 1,500m—you can enjoy everything from casual hikes to serious mountain ascents, such as trekking to Mt. Kotomi (2,007m) or climbing deeper into the Northern Alps via Mt. Goryu (2,814m). As such, everyone from sandal-wearing visitors to fully equipped mountaineers can find something to do at Goryu. Thanks to the heavy snowfall during the 2025 winter season, spring flowers like the shirane-aoi (Japanese wood poppy, pictured) are expected to bloom for an extended period this year. Also, the scenic tenbo lift is now free to ride all day on its scheduled operating dates. (*Photo taken 2024/6/1)
