Low humidity made for a brilliant blue sky this morning, providing the perfect backdrop for the pink accents of akabana shimotsuke-so (pictured), which have reached their peak around a week earlier than last year. Most of the visitors arriving on the first Goryu Telecabin at 7:30 a.m. were hikers, who transferred to the Tenbo Lift and continued on toward Mt. Goryu.

In the middle section of the Hakuba Goryu Alpine Botanical Garden, the lower half of the akabana shimotsuke-so colony is now in full bloom (pictured). The upper half produced few flowers this year, but between this area and ALPS360, ko-oniyuri, Tateyama-utsubogusa, kirin-so, yamaruri-toranoo, and Hakusan-furo were all blooming beautifully.

Meanwhile, the akabana shimotsuke-so in the upper section of the garden (pictured) were around 60 to 70% in bloom. The path on the Grand Prix Course side has also been opened to coincide with the flowering season. On sunny days like today, visitors may also want to borrow one of the free parasols available at the Goryu Telecabin summit station (green parasol pictured in the background).

Iwagikyo (pictured) were at their best in the upper Rock Garden. Nearby, I also found miyama-uikyo, recognizable by its soft, feathery foliage. In the plaza in front of ALPS360, the Igari Masashi Flower Garden Street Live performance was underway. (※Held daily, excluding Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 7/11 (Sat.) to 8/22 (Sat.))
