During the current summer holiday period, long lines have been forming at the gondola base station ticket counter, not only on weekends, but also on weekday mornings. To skip the line, head straight to the gondola, and save on your ticket, visit the Snownavi advance discount lift ticket website. During the Obon period, if you plan to use your ticket between 8/9 (Sat.) and 8/13 (Wed.), be sure to purchase it by 8/6 (Wed.). For use between 8/14 (Thurs.) and 8/17 (Sun.), make sure to buy it by 8/11 (Mon.) in order to receive it in time.

In sharp contrast to the muggy weather of last week, both yesterday and today brought dry air with pleasant sunshine. I met a group of four visitors from Tokyo at the No. 3 Cairn who commented, “It feels amazing with such nice weather!” After passing Happo Pond and entering the forested Shita-no-Kanba area (pictured), I found myself immediately enveloped in a cool, pleasant breeze.

Within the Shita-no-Kanba area, Hakusan omienashi and miyama akinokirin-so were in bloom, and in the area beyond, the trail was lined with abundant flowers including Tateyama utsubokusa, akabana shimotsuke-so, and kinkouka. After tackling the steep switchbacking climb (pictured) and the sloping traverse route, I arrived at Ue-no-Kanba, where the air felt even cooler and more refreshing than below.

While descending from around the Ougi-no-Setsuden snowfield, which still had plenty of lingering snow, I met a family from Kanagawa (pictured). The father called out to me saying, “Hey, aren’t you with Snownavi? I always read your reports! We’re staying at the summit hut on Mt. Karamatsu tonight. It’s our 6-year-old’s first-ever mountain climb—and he absolutely loves the Happo gondola!” His child then shyly added, “It was so much fun riding the gondola!”
