In late July of this year, the counter and carpeting at Cafeteria Yeti (pictured), located at the Usagidaira Terrace, were renovated! The Yeti menu also gained two new additions: the “Shinshu Vegetable and Savory Salt-Grilled Pork Rice Bowl” (¥1,700) and the “Tomato Cream Pasta with Blue Crab, Shrimp, and Vegetables” (¥3,000).

This morning, with a high-pressure system to the west, and low pressure to the east, the temperature at Kurobishi-daira was a crisp 18°C at 8:30 a.m. If you’re planning a long hike or tackling a new route for the first time, the cool and more predictable weather from September to early October is highly recommended. As I continued up the Ridge Route (pictured), I hardly broke a sweat, expended little energy, and the Second Cairn felt surprisingly close thanks to the cooler weather.

The grassy areas between the Second Cairn and Happo Cairn had begun to take on a yellowish tint (pictured). Clouds rose up from the southern slopes and blocked the sun, causing the air to grow even cooler and more refreshing. Along both the Happo-One Nature Trail and Ridge Route, Tamura-so, Hakusan shajin, umebachi-so, miyama akinokirin-so, and oyama-soba were blooming in abundance.

A family visiting from Ibaraki Prefecture (pictured) shared, “We’re staying at the Hakuba Highland Hotel and really enjoying everything Hakuba has to offer! We had planned to hike yesterday, but since the weather was unstable, we decided to wait until today. It’s turned into a wonderful summer memory for us!” Despite being a weekday, the Happo Pond area was bustling with families, student groups, and guided trekking tours.
