Summer Info
The second “MOUNTAIN DOG MARCHE” of the summer season was held on 9/5 (Sat.) and 9/6 (Sun.). (※Free admission.) This time, all three attractions: the “Specialty Market” (pictured), the “Sky Dog Run & Breed Meetups,” and the “Scenic Stamp Rally”, were held around the summit area. The temperature was a cool 15°C on the morning of 9/6 (Sun.), and it felt just right with a jacket or fleece.

The “Specialty Market” in front of Skyark featured rows of booths selling treats, leashes, and other products for dogs. The sheer variety of treats was especially impressive (pictured), ranging from familiar chicken- and fish-based options to more unusual varieties made with venison, vegetables, and fruit. Samples were also available to try.

At the “Sky Dog Run & Breed Meetups” beside the beech forest, plenty of owners were taking photos with their dogs. I met a group of owners from Tokyo (pictured), who told me, “We’re a group of six families who have been here together since Friday. We’ve tried SUP with our dogs at Lake Aoki and visited the Hakuba Ski Jumping Stadium.”

Rain began falling around noon, so I headed to THE CITY BAKERY at HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR (pictured) to get out of the elements. Wrapped in white clouds, the Northern Alps had a misty, almost otherworldly beauty that was completely different from the view on a clear day. Pets are not permitted inside the cafe, but a pet-friendly area is available inside Skyark (towards the back on the right side after entering).

＊Participants in the “Scenic Stamp Rally” who collected all five stamps around the summit area received a voucher that could be exchanged for treats and other items at the market.
