Due to the danger of falling trees and branches caused by the weight of the freezing rain that fell on 2/22 (Thu.) and the subsequent rime ice and snow thereafter, the View 2 lift will remain closed for the time being. In its place, the 3sen North lift started operation on 2/24 (Sat.), and the North Slope (pictured) is now open for skiing.

With the recent low temperatures and daily snowfall, slope conditions have been improving day by day, and this morning powder snow was back at the North Slope (pictured)! By the way, the area surrounded by netting (pictured) on the early part of the course is a dog run area.

The East Slope was groomed with a moderately firm powder snow surface topped with 2 to 3 cm of light, fresh snow, just like the North slope! The ungroomed sides of the slope had about 15 cm of fluffy new snow that was rather enjoyable. On the groomed South Slope (pictured), the wet snow surface was well-packed, and I was able to comfortably repeat turns while sending up spray from the 2 to 3 cm of light, fresh snow.

Over on the Mountain Side, the strong northwesterly winds and the dry, falling snow made it feel quite cold! As I skied down, the wind died down and the cold eased up around the Sunny Valley Course, which was groomed with a moderately firm wet snow base at the beginning and hard granular snow from the middle to the end. The course was very popular, especially among international visitors, and as of 9:30 a.m., there was a 10-15 minute wait at the gondola base station.
