REPORT

Light snow had been falling in the morning, but had almost fully stopped by around 9:00 a.m. On the East Slope (pictured), there was 1 to 2 cm of fresh, slightly wet snow, on top of a moderately soft, wet snow surface. The ungroomed areas to the sides of the run (pictured) were buried in about 30 cm of somewhat heavy fresh snow. Even still, I was able to enjoy the fluffy fresh snow feeling by charging in with some speed.
[East Slope]

The Mountain Side of the resort was covered in a layer of fog that was rolling in and out repeatedly. In other news, Hakuba Sports will hold a New Model Snowboard & Binding Test Ride event this weekend at the Iwatake summit area, on 3/3 (Sun.). The event starts at 10:00 a.m., requires a ¥1,000 fee to participate, and is the same event that was held at Sanosaka on 2/24 & 2/25!
[South Slope]

The South Slope (second photo) had similar conditions to the East Slope, with a moderately soft, groomed wet snow surface topped with about 1 cm of fresh snow. The Sunny Valley Course (pictured) was also groomed, with a relatively firm wet snow base that loosened up more and more the further down the slope I went. The last part of the run was slushy.

As I skied down, I emerged out of the fog somewhere around the junction with the Sawa Course. There I ran into members of the Shinshu University Demonstration Skiing Club (pictured), who greeted me and said, “We’re practicing now on the Kometsuga Course (pictured, background left) for the team competition that will take place on 3/8 (Fri.). We will do our best to win!”
