Akakura Onsen REPORT

2026.01.12200 cm / Partly Cloudy

After heavy snowfall on 1/8 (Thu.) pushed the officially reported base depth to 2 meters, another solid round of snow fell yesterday, 1/11 (Sun.). The final day of the three-day weekend, however, began with clear and calm weather. Grooming machines were still running right up until opening on the Panorama Course and Family Slope (pictured), and I enjoyed carving fresh tracks into the just-finished, moderately firm groomed powder that was ripe for ripping.

I ran into a couple from Aichi Prefecture (pictured), who called out to me, saying, “Aren’t you from Snownavi? We always use your site. It looks like the Yodel No. 4 Pair won’t be running just yet, so we’re heading over to ski the Kumado Slope.” Snow removal took longer than expected, and as a result, the Yodel No. 4 Pair began spinning at 10 a.m., followed by the Yodel No. 5 Triple following at 10:30 a.m. The Sekimi Slope was groomed with a moderately firm, powder snow base that was easy to ski.

Around 30 to 40 cm of fresh snow had piled up in the ungroomed section between the Slalom Course and the Downhill Central Course (pictured), as well as in the ungroomed area along the north side of the Sekimi Slope. Because both areas have gentle gradients, I made sure to ski them in a relatively straight line with shallow turns, enjoying the light, dry, silky feel of the snow along the way.

The groomed section of the Downhill Central Course (pictured) had a moderately soft powder base, and was topped with a light layer of fresh snow—just enough to partially cover the grooming lines. By the way, “Ski Kids’ Day” is set to take place this coming weekend, on 1/18 (Sun.), where elementary school students can ride the lifts for free all day. In addition, the “Kids’ Treasure Hunt!” event will be held from 2 p.m. near the Yodel No. 1 Triple lift station.
