A special “Snow Walk with Your Dog” event will be held on 3/1 (Sun.) in Hakuba Iwatake’s Nezuko-no-Mori, where you can enjoy a quiet walk through the forest on snowshoes with your dog. (※Limited to 10 participants; ¥5,000 if you bring your own snowshoes, ¥7,000 with snowshoe rental. Apply here.) This morning, the snow that had been falling around the 8:00 a.m. opening eased off, and sunshine began to break through later on.

VIEW C and VIEW D were dusted with 2 to 3 cm of light new snow on top of a well-compacted groomed powder base. In the ungroomed VIEW α (pictured), VIEW A, and VIEW B areas, 10 to 15 cm of light new snow had built up on firm, well-defined natural features, and I enjoyed the soft, buoyant feel of powder underfoot.

I ran into two visitors from Gunma (pictured) who told me, “We’re staying in Nagano City from 2/7 (Sat.) to 2/11 (Wed.) and skiing different resorts. We went to Maiko yesterday and came to Iwatake today. The snow park (pictured) is really well maintained and looks great!” Iwatake Snow Park had been groomed cleanly again this morning, and I was able to drop in with confidence.
[South Slope]

The East Slope (pictured) and South Slope both delivered excellent conditions, with 2 to 3 cm of light new snow sitting on well-compacted groomed powder. Sunny Valley also skied beautifully on firm groomed powder, and with just 1 to 2 cm of fresh snow adding texture, I linked comfortable, flowing turns all the way down to the gondola base station.
