It’s been a great February so far, with both good snow depth and snow quality, all 19 lifts running, and every course on the mountain open, including Urakuro and Omusubi. This morning brought calm, mostly sunny weather, with thin clouds drifting across the eastern sky. I spoke with a ski patroller who commented, “Today’s grooming is excellent.” In fact, the high-pitched squeak of dry powder underfoot had me in a great mood before I even dropped in on my first run

The Panorama Course, the south-side route at Usagidaira, and the area along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) were all groomed with moderately firm powder, and I was able to set my edges and link turns exactly as I wanted. I ran into a couple from Mie Prefecture (pictured) who told me, “We always read your reports. The conditions today are incredible!”

A skier I met on the Skyline Course, which also had a moderately firm groomed powder base, said, “I always follow your reports. The views and the snow quality are both amazing! After a few runs on the groomers, I’m heading out to the backcountry.” HAPPO PARKS, the Kita-One forest road, Sakka Wave (pictured), and the Sakka Slope all offered firm groomed powder as well.

This weekend, on 2/14 (Sat.) and 2/15 (Sun.), the OGASAKA SKI New Model Demo event will be held in front of Usagidaira Terrace (from 9:15 a.m.; free to join; ID required), while an ID one ski demo will take place on the Nakiyama Slope (from 9:00 a.m.; ¥1,000 with advance registration, ¥1,500 same day). In addition, 2/15 (Sun.) is Kids’ Ski Day, with free lift rides for elementary school students.
