Radiational cooling and calm, clear skies made for fairly cold temperatures early on this morning, but with plenty of sunshine things warmed up quickly. The South Slope (pictured) was groomed wall-to-wall, and offered firm moist snow conditions. I noticed a few small snow clumps on the surface, but I was still able to link turns just as I wanted.

The Iwatake Snow Park (pictured, background), which was rebuilt over two days on 2/12 (Thu.) to 2/13 (Fri.), reopened today. I met one of the diggers who told me, “I always read your reports. With this last remake, we strengthened the jib features. Everyone who follows Snownavi, please come check it out!”

“Snownavi! Take our photo!” called out a group of four visitors (pictured) from Fukui and Toyama prefectures. “The Northern Alps look incredible! We picked a perfect day!” VIEW D featured well-compacted groomed moist snow up top and down through the midsection, transitioning to firmer groomed moist snow lower down.

Sunny Valley featured a firm, groomed moist snow base, though the surface began softening early in the sun-exposed lower section. The “26/27 NEW MODEL TEST RIDE” event (9:00 a.m. start, free participation) is now taking place beside the Base Center from 2/12 (Thu.) to 2/15 (Sun.). A staff member told me, “We have next season’s boards, and also bindings and boots available, so please take this opportunity to try them out.”
