Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2026.02.21210 cm / Sunny

I was surprised by how quiet it was at Hakunori this morning. In fact, the last time I reported here—on a weekday morning right after fresh snowfall—it was packed. But on the first morning of this three-day holiday weekend, with clear skies and no wind, there were very few people out, and I was able to carve my own lines across pristine, untouched runs. The sunshine quickly pushed temperatures up from the chilly -7°C start at 8 a.m.

Kamoshika, Highway, and Wakaguri Central all offered moderately firm, easy-to-ski moist snow grooming, and small ice granules were visible on Kamoshika and Wakaguri Central. Perhaps because it was so quiet, the “Snownavi recognition rate” felt especially high—starting with two guests from Matsumoto City and Azumino City (pictured), who greeted me with the standard “I always read your reports!” along with many other people throughout the morning.

Temperatures continued rising through the late morning, and by around 10:30 a.m., it was warm enough to work up a sweat with just a bit of movement. The Satomi Central Slope (pictured) was groomed, and the surface had begun to soften slightly, taking on a lightly moist texture. Although tracks had built up, the slope remained generally flat and fast, offering smooth, confidence-inspiring turns.

I ran into members of the Otari Junior Ski Club (pictured) who had gathered before operations began, and they told me, “Skiing is so much fun! Today we’re practicing skiing gates on the Satomi Central Slope.” In addition to the “Anglerfish Cutting Demonstration” event in front of Snow Drop on the final day of the three-day weekend, 2/23 (Mon.), there will also be a grilled seafood event and a prize drawing (PDF).
