After the spring-like warmth and clear skies on 2/21 (Sat.) and 2/22 (Sun.), steady rain fell across the area last night. This morning, however, brought calm, mild, overcast conditions. On the groomed Wakaguri Forest Course, the surface was composed of moderately soft granular snow, and two guests from Aichi Prefecture (pictured) who I met there told me, “We always read your reports. We’re senior and junior colleagues at work, but on a snowboard the roles reverse—I’m the one getting lessons from my junior.”

A light layer of fog hung over the upper half of the Highway Course, though there was little to no impact on visibility, and the moderately firm granular grooming made for smooth skiing. From the moderately firm, groomed granular surface on the lower half of Highway to the moderately soft granular grooming on the Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured), conditions allowed for comfortable speed and confident turns. The Moguls Course featured moderately firm, small-sized moguls.

I spoke with two guests from Kyoto Prefecture (pictured), who called out to me from the lift, saying, “We always read your reports. We’re part of the same ski team and have been skiing here since Friday. The skis are running really well today—it’s very smooth.” The Satomi Central Slope also offered a moderately soft, groomed granular base.

By the way, on 2/28 (Sat.), Hakunori and Cortina will host a collaborative event with the yukiyama app. Check in through the app and collect at least five of the ten QR code stamps hidden across both resorts to be entered into a drawing for premium prizes.
