A fresh coating of rime ice had returned to the trees at the summit of Iwatake this morning. Up top, VIEW C, VIEW D, the South Slope, and East Slope all offered well-groomed granular snow that had set up firm overnight. On VIEW D, I eased into my first run while taking in the beauty of the frost-covered trees (pictured), then picked up speed once the pitch steepened mid-run.

On the Mountain Side of the resort, crews had the groomers dialed across every run, and the Iwatake Snow Park was in great shape as well. The current setup includes 14 features: an 8 m kicker, 6 m kicker, down rail, flat-down rail, narrow box, mini kicker, 3 m kicker, another 6 m kicker, donkey rail, flat rail, box, rainbow rail, wide rail, and end wall. I watched as visitors were getting big air and throwing grabs off the 8 m kicker (pictured).

The “Snow Walk with Your Dog” event started at 10:00 a.m. this morning (advance reservation required, limited to 10 participants). The group met at the Base Center, rode the gondola to the summit, and strapped on snowshoes in front of the tipi tent. Once everyone was ready, the guide (center, red jacket) led them into the Nezuko-no-Mori forest area.

The group spent about an hour walking through the forest with their dogs while learning about the snow depth and tree species that grow in Nezuko-no-Mori. Afterward, they relaxed at the tipi tent with coffee. The dogs were treated to XAXA special snacks—apple chips, snowball snacks, and freeze-dried salmon—along with warm drinks.
