The light rain that had been falling during the 7 a.m. hour gradually turned to wet snow around 8 a.m. This morning, the Sekimi Slope (pictured) featured softened groomed granular snow with 1 to 2 cm of moist new snow on top. The fresh layer created noticeable drag once I started sliding, so despite the wide-open run, I kept my line fairly straight to maintain speed.

The Slalom Course (pictured) and the Downhill Central Course shared the same conditions as Sekimi: softened groomed granular snow topped with 1 to 2 cm of moist new snow. The surface felt clearly softer than during my last visit, and the snow surface in heavily trafficked areas had already become choppy early on. Snow coverage, however, remained excellent, with no bushes or thin spots visible on the Downhill Central Course.

The Utopia A Course (pictured) is set to host the 19th Annual All Japan Mogul Championships “Akakura no Ran” on 3/8 (Sun.). The event is open to anyone who enjoys skiing moguls. Advance registration is currently available, and same-day entry will also be accepted. A “Mogul Preparation Camp” will be held the day before on 3/7 (Sat.).

Based on this morning’s snow conditions, I plan to switch to spring-specific wax starting tomorrow. The Family Slope (pictured) and the Elegant Course matched the other runs with similarly softened, groomed granular snow topped by 1 to 2 cm of moist new snow. Snow continued to fall, carried by a cold north wind, alternating between lighter and heavier bursts, but the tree-lined Elegant Course stayed sheltered enough that neither the wind nor the snowfall affected skiing very much.
