The rainy season for the Kanto-Koshin region, which includes Hakuba, officially ended on 7/18 (Fri.), and we were treated to sunshine for the third day in a row on the morning of the Marine Day holiday. However, around 7:30 a.m., the Happo-One Nature Trail was mostly in the shade due to clouds moving in from the southwest. By the way, the central signboard pictured has been updated this summer, and what was once referred to as the “Mountain Climbing Route” or “Mountain Trail” is now officially labeled the “Ridge Line.”

The name of the boardwalk course remains unchanged. The “Happo-One Nature Trail” refers specifically to the section stretching from the Kamaike Marsh to Happo-ike Sanso, along the Boardwalk Course, and up to the Happo-ike Pond. Being a three-day holiday during the summer break period, there was a large turnout of visitors today. A long line formed at the ticket counter at the gondola base station, and many families were seen along the relatively easy-to-walk wooden boardwalk.

By the way, the “Hakuba Happo-One Stamp Rally” is being held from 7/19 (Sat.) to 10/19 (Sun.). Collect all seven digital stamps from checkpoints located along the trail between Usagidaira and Happo-ike Pond, and show them at the Yeti register counter on the Usagidaira Terrace to receive one of seven commemorative pins (pictured) and a completion certificate. You’ll also be entered into a drawing for a special edition pin.

The area around Happo-ike Pond featured a refreshing, cool breeze, and there a mother from Kanagawa (pictured center) shared, “The day before yesterday we went to Iwatake, and yesterday we visited the Tsugaike Nature Park. We made it to Happo Pond today before the weather turned. It’s been a mountain-filled three-day weekend!” Her daughter (pictured, far right) also commented, “It was fun gliding over the packed snow. It felt like I was skating!”
