Both the Goryu Telecabin and the Tenbo Lift (pictured) have been operating daily since 6/20 (Sat.). Unlimited rides, at no extra charge, have been offered on the Tenbo Lift since last year, and by using the available discount coupon, you can ride all the way to the observation deck at the top of the lift for just ¥2,900 for adults and ¥1,450 for elementary and junior high school students between 7/1 (Wed.) and 8/31 (Mon.). It’s a convenient option for trekking to Mt. Kotomi, and also for accessing the Northern Alps beyond.

The rainy season has persisted even after Typhoons No. 7 and No. 8 passed through the area, and the plants are especially vibrant at this time of year. Just a short walk through the Hakuba Goryu Alpine Botanical Garden left me feeling refreshed. In the Rock Garden, komakusa remains at its best, while iwa tsume-kusa (pictured), Ibuki jako-so, and miyama-odamaki were also looking beautiful.

Around the Jizo Cairn, on the Alps-daira Nature Trail, the occasional light breeze felt wonderfully refreshing. I met two visitors from Saitama Prefecture who told me, “The way the clouds are rising (pictured) is so dramatic! The forecast says the weather will deteriorate this afternoon, so we’re going to pick up the pace and head for Mt. Kotomi.”
[Alps-daira Nature Trail]
Along the Alps-daira Nature Trail and across the upper section of the Alpine Botanical Garden, Nikkokisuge day lilies (pictured) were becoming increasingly abundant. There were also plenty of healthy buds, so they should become even more impressive in the coming days. Iwa-shimotsuke, urajiro-yoraku, and sarasa-dodan were at their peak along the nature trail, while hiogi-ayame irises were in peak bloom throughout the botanical garden.

*Around ten Himalayan blue poppies were in bloom in the Swiss Alps–Himalaya Area below the Rock Garden.
*The free shuttle bus serving JR Kamishiro Station, the Hakuba Goryu Bus Stop, and Escal Plaza is currently in operation!
