Early-morning operations began today, 7/4 (Sat.), meaning the Goryu Telecabin will begin running at 7 a.m. on weekends and public holidays from 7/4 (Sat.) to 8/16 (Sun.), as well as daily during the Obon period from 8/10 (Mon.) to 8/14 (Fri.). In addition, the Telecabin will open at 7:30 a.m. on weekdays from 7/6 (Mon.) to 8/7 (Fri.) and on weekends and public holidays from 8/22 (Sat.) to 10/18 (Sun.). The Tenbo Lift, which can be ridden any number of times at no additional charge, begins operating ten minutes after the Telecabin.
[Tenbo Lift Upper Station]
At around 7:30 a.m. this morning, the temperature was in the low teens and the air felt wonderfully fresh. From the deck at the Tenbo Lift’s upper station, I watched a steady stream of climbers with large backpacks setting out for Mt. Goryu. Looking back, June in Hakuba was a characteristically rainy month, with relatively few clear days and the following stats: 133.5 hours of sunshine (12.6 hours below average), and 238.5 mm of rainfall (27.1 mm above average).
[Tenbo Lift Upper Station]
Nikkokisuge day lilies (pictured) are now at their best in the upper section of the Hakuba Goryu Alpine Botanical Garden and around Jizo Pond. It was wonderful to see visitors excitedly riding the Tenbo Lift and taking photos with their phones. Urajiro-yoraku, sarasa-dodan, and iwa-shimotsuke were blooming beautifully along the Alps-Daira Nature Trail, while tani-utsugi and gozen-tachibana could be seen along the route to Mikaeri-zaka.

By around 8:30 a.m., clouds from the valley below had begun to rise, occasionally bringing a light mist to the area. Komakusa are still beautifully in bloom in the botanical garden, joined by Ibuki jako-so (pictured), takane-nadeshiko, and hiogi-ayame. In the Swiss Alps and Himalayan sections of the lower Rock Garden, Iris bulleyana and Lilium apertum were blooming, while otome-yuri was looking beautiful in front of ALPS360.
