Goryu47 REPORT

2023.12.1365cm / Snowy

Warm weather has continued since 12/8 (Fri.), but the rain yesterday morning and the night before delivered the final blow, causing the lower trails on the 47 side (the lower portion of Route 1 and Route 7) to close yesterday. Thankfully however, cold temperatures returned last evening, bringing some snow overnight and into this morning. Yet, in order to preserve the base as much as possible, only the top part of Route 8 and Panorama (pictured) were groomed.

I spoke with two snowboarders from Nagano City (pictured), who told me, “We love your site! The snow is pretty hard and the conditions are not very Hakuba-like.” Due to the strong winds late last night, the trees in the Alps-Daira area were covered with rime ice.
The groomed Panorama Course (pictured) had about 1cm of fresh snow on top of a hard packed surface, but I was able to set my edges and link controlled, comfortable turns.

In contrast to the Panorama Course, where most of the visitors gathered, there were few people on the Grand Prix Course (pictured). The snow surface was marked with hard, irregular surface bumps, and it was impressive to see advanced skiers smoothly skiing down the difficult slope while beginners and intermediate skiers carefully skied down turn by turn.

I also had a conversation today with a Hakuba47 ski patroller (pictured) who was skiing on his day off. He told me he was a fan of Snownavil, and continued, “Most of the trails are ungroomed with hard surfaces, so please ski carefully. I even fell a little while ago. Actually though, more people get hurt on sunny days.”
