Goryu47 REPORT

2023.12.1180cm / Cloudy

It was a warm morning with fog that rolled in and out across the slopes. The Grand Prix Course (pictured) had a moderately soft, groomed wet snow surface that held my edges well and enabled me to link controlled, comfortable turns. I noticed an area with a little bit of dirt and stones mixed into the snowpack at the center of the last part of the course (marked with a pole), which made me a little worried about the slope conditions going forward.

There were no bushes or other obstacles on the north-facing Panorama Course (pictured), nor on the upper portion of Route, and both were groomed with ample snow cover. The Panorama Course had a firmer surface and felt easier to ski than the Grand Prix Course. If I had had more time, I would have wanted to lap the area using the Alps 1st Pair.

I caught up with two visitors from Yamanouchi and Otari (pictured), who told me they were fans of Snownavi. They continued, saying, “We came here to ski since there is so much terrain open. We feel fortunate to see each other for the first time in a long time, and also to run into Snownavi! Today we’re practicing in preparation for our ski instructor’s test.” Like Panorama, the lower part of Route 8 was groomed with moderately firm wet snow.

In resort news, as Hakuba47 became “fully open” on 12/9, the early-season skiing period that was originally scheduled to last until 12/15 (Fri.) ended a week early on 12/8, and lift fares are now charged at the regular rates. Again this season, the third Sunday of each month from December to April, and on 5/5 (Sun.), elementary school students ride the lifts for free. (*Pre-school children are always free.) As such, the first kids ski free event will take place this weekend on 12/17 (Sun.).
