Goryu47 REPORT

2024.03.02245cm / Partly Sunny

A low-pressure system off the southern coast of Japan passed to the east of Honshu, creating a winter pressure pattern that caused temperatures to drop rapidly. Dry snow was falling around dawn, but slowly faded to mere flurries about 30 minutes into the sunrise skiing period that operates on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. It was a typical weekend turnout, with visitors showing up fast, and the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 parking lots were all full as of 9:00 a.m.
[Toomi Slope]

The Toomi Slope (pictured) had about 1 to 2 cm of light, fresh snow on top of hard, groomed wet snow, and although there were a few spots here and there with clumps of snow scattered across the surface, my edges held firm and I was able to make enjoyable, comfortable turns. In other news, the 14th Annual Kanagawa Prefecture Inter-Municipal Ski Competition is being held today and tomorrow along the Toomi 2nd Pair (pictured).

The sun was shining when I got off the Goryu Telecabin, which started moving about 30 minutes later than scheduled. However, a pretty strong, cold northerly wind was blowing at Alps-Daira, which made the lift rides feel very cold. I got pretty excited as I spied the beautiful, untouched snow surface of the Technical Course (pictured) and the frost-covered trees flanking the lift.
[Technical Course]

On the ungroomed Technical Course (pictured), I was able to enjoy the 30 to 40 cm of fresh, fluffy snow without bottoming out! The Grand Prix and Panorama courses were groomed with moderately soft powder snow surfaces that were very easy to ski, while the Dynamic Course had a base of firm powder snow. The Woody Course started out with a firm, wet snow surface that became more tightly packed the further down I skied.
