Winter has finally shown its full strength. The snow that began yesterday afternoon was still coming down steadily, along with a light northwest breeze, as of 8 a.m. this morning. A deep layer of fluffy new snow had piled up to about 25cm on the mid- to lower section of the Hakunori Family Course, and roughly 30cm had settled on the lower part of the Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured).

Climbing up to the midsection of the Wakaguri Central Slope, I found the new snow—also the total base depth—had reached 40cm. Thanks to several rounds of early-season cold snaps and snowfall this November, the snowpack no longer released moisture from beneath my footprints, a clear sign that the ground heat had finally dissipated. A few tall grasses were still poking through here and there, but seeing the slope so close to its true winter form was enough to lift my spirits.
