This morning, large flakes of snow with a bit of moisture began falling around daybreak. Because of a winter pressure pattern settling over the area, steady snow is forecast to continue through tomorrow morning. In addition, thick cloud cover moved in over the upper part of the resort as it opened for business, and the Sky View Slope, which opened on 1/3 (Sat.), could no longer be seen from the Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured).

I spoke with an American man living in Kobe, who told me, “I’m staying at the Hakuba Alps Hotel from 1/2 (Fri.) to 1/6 (Tue.). I took a fall yesterday and hurt my ribs, so it’s a bit frustrating that I can’t ski even though there’s so much snow. My daughter (pictured), who loves snow, is having a great time, though.” On the Wakaguri Central Slope, 2 to 3cm of slightly moist new snow sat atop a well-set, firmly groomed moist snow surface.

By the way, a new powder room (pictured) has been added just before the entrance to the women’s restroom at Snowdrop, which reopened after renovations this December. Each booth features a spacious counter with drawers, making it convenient and easy to use, with plenty of room to set down small items like gloves and hats, as well as cosmetics.

On the Highway Course (pictured) and the Rabbit Course, 3 to 5cm of slightly moist new snow covered moderately firm, groomed moist snow bases, and my skis ran fast and smoothly. (Note: bushes were present only at the very start of the Rabbit Course). Later on in the morning, around 9:00 a.m., the snowfall picked up in intensity.
