The forecast is calling for the longest cold wave of the season to arrive starting tomorrow. With powder days ahead, I’ve got my eye on Omusubi (pictured, background), which I still haven’t managed to cover in a report yet this season. Today, skies were mostly cloudy with occasional sunshine, and a patroller let me know, “Strong winds on the upper portion of the resort are going to delay the start of the Alpen Quad.”

With that information, I headed for the well-maintained Panorama Course (pictured). The firmly set, groomed powder let me set my edges confidently and build good speed. From there, I skied down via the Panorama Forest Road, Sakka Wave, and Sakka Slope, which all had firm, groomed wet snow surfaces, before making my way to the Sakka Kita-One Quad.

After riding the Sakka Kita-One Quad and then the Skyline 2 Pair, I dropped into the central section of the Skyline Course (pictured), where the firmly groomed wet snow surface had a distinctly powdery feel. Firm tracks had developed on the ungroomed sections of Olympic Course II and Skyline.
[Skyline Course]
HAPPO PARKS had a moderately firm, groomed wet-snow surface. With all of the features carefully maintained, I was able to drop in confidently. The Kitaone forest course also had well-set groomed wet snow, while the steeper pitches on Kita-One were covered with medium to large, firm moguls.
