Snow has continued falling since 1/29 (Thu.), pushing the officially reported base past the 300cm mark on 1/30 (Sat.). Light but intermittent snow continued after that, bringing the total to 310cm as of this morning. Dry snow was falling as I stepped off the gondola, carried at times by slightly strong gusts of wind.
[Panorama Course]
On the Panorama Course (first photo), the well-set groomed powder was topped with about 2cm of dry new snow. On the south-side route at Usagidaira (pictured), the area along the Kurobishi Quad, and the central section of the Skyline Course, 2 to 4cm of light new snow sat on top of moderately firm groomed powder bases, and it was especially fun slicing through the fresh topping.
[Usagidaira Slope]
I skied down via the Kita-One forest road, Sakka Wave, and the Kokusai Course (pictured), all of which were groomed and lightly dusted with new snow, providing consistent powder conditions the whole way. On the ungroomed Olympic Course I and on the steep pitches of Kita-One, small to large moguls had formed. The Grat Quad remained closed all day today due to snow-clearing work beneath the line.
[International Course]
On Olympic Course II (pictured), 1 to 2cm of light new snow sat on a base of well-set, shallow rollers. Later, on the groomed Central Course, a skier I met said, “I always follow your reports. The firmly packed grooming with a light dusting of new snow makes for really satisfying carving turns.”
