A busy stretch of events continues through mid-February at Happo: the “Five Weeks of Fireworks” on 2/7 (Sat.) and again on 2/14 (Sat.); the Snowfield Sports Day from 2/12 (Thu.) to 2/15 (Sun.); the OGASAKA SKI New Model Demo Days and ID one Ski Demo on 2/14 (Sat.) and 2/15 (Sun.); and the Fire Festival on 2/20 (Fri.). A First Tracks event will also be held on 2/7, 2/8, 2/11, 2/14, and finally 2/15 (Sun.), which is also Kids’ Ski Day. Just like yesterday, the morning started off calm and crystal clear.

On days like this, most visitors head straight for the upper mountain, making the Central Course (pictured) a great, quiet option. This morning, the Panorama Course → Central Course → Shirakaba Slope line offered well-set groomed powder throughout. With the pitch alternating between moderate and steep over its full 2,400 m length, it’s a groomed route that makes you want to lap it again and again using the gondola.

Around 9:00 a.m., while I was riding the Grat Quad, thin clouds began drifting across the sun. The Riesen Grat Course (pictured) had moderately firm, groomed powder, while the ungroomed section to skiers’ left on the latter half featured a moderately firm, uneven surface.

The south-side route of Usagidaira, the area along the Kurobishi Quad, and the Skyline Course all offered moderately firm, easy-to-ski groomed powder as well. HAPPO PARKS (pictured), which opened at 9:00 a.m., was once again in immaculate shape. Combined with the well-set groomed powder surface, it felt safe and confidence-inspiring to drop into the features.
