Happo-one REPORT

2026.02.13315 cm / Cloudy

I kept thinking the skies would clear, but it stayed overcast throughout my time reporting. I also expected it to feel warmer, yet it remained surprisingly chilly. This busy, event-filled weekend featuring fireworks, the OGASAKA SKI New Model Demo, the ID one ski demo, Snow Sports Day, First Tracks, and Kids’ Ski Day, is forecast to bring warm temperatures more typical of late March to early April across the country.

On the Riesen Slalom Course (pictured), the upper section had a well-set groomed powder base, while the mid to lower sections had firm, groomed wet snow. Small snow clumps shaved off by the edges of skiers and boarders were visible on the lower Usuba Slope, but with a light dusting of new snow from top to bottom, the surface remained smooth and fast, making it easy to carry speed.

After riding back up on the Riesen Quad and transferring to the Alpen Quad and then the Grat Quad, I broke above the cloud layer near the top of the resort and caught a clear view of Mt. Goryu (pictured, right) and Mt. Kashimayari (left). The blue sky lasted only a moment before clouds once again closed in over the Northern Alps.
[Riesen Grat Course]

The ungroomed Riesen Grat showed two different faces: the upper half had a mostly flat base with 3 to 10cm of slightly chunky new snow, while the lower half featured an uneven base and moguls topped with about 3cm of light new snow. On the south-side route at Usagidaira and the area along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured), a light dusting of new snow covered moderately firm groomed powder. The central section of Skyline had well-set groomed wet snow with a powdery feel, while the Kita-One forest road, Sakka Wave, and Shirakaba Slope were all well-set groomed wet snow.
