Happo-one REPORT

Here’s a fun quiz—can you guess where this is? Steady rain had been falling at the base since yesterday evening, and finally eased off around 7:30 a.m. this morning. A patrol member I spoke with warned me, “The fog is very thick today, so be careful.” From the mid-mountain and up, light rain was still falling, and the slopes were wrapped in the thickest fog we’ve seen all season. (※Answer: The upper section on the north side of the Panorama Course).

The Panorama Course (pictured) featured groomed granular snow with high moisture content, giving it a loose, slightly slushy feel. The surface still ran well, but visibility was extremely limited. I had to ski carefully and keep clear reference points, or it was easy to lose all sense of my surroundings. A skier I met commented, “It’s completely white out there today—it must be tough to do your job.”

The light rain changed over to wet snow while I rode the Alpen Quad. On Usagidaira’s South Side Route, the upper half remained ungroomed with rollers and moguls, while a single piste-width groomed strip on the lower half held loose, granular snow. Along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured), the slope had softened into moderately loose granular snow that skied smoothly.

The Skyline Course had grooming only along the forest road section. The rest remained ungroomed, but the central section (pictured) had relatively few bumps and offered a smooth, consistent ride. HAPPO PARKS is closed for two days (yesterday and today) in preparation for the “HAPPO LINES 2026 Final Party” scheduled for tomorrow, 3/20 (Fri., holiday).
