The “Alpen Group Members-Only 2026–27 Snowboard Demo & Order Event” is currently taking place from 3/20 (Fri., holiday) to 3/22 (Sun.) at the Yuki-no-hiroba area around the gondola mid-station. I spoke with a staff member who told me, “More than 10 brands are represented, so definitely take this opportunity to try out a range of boards and find your favorite.” This morning, the weather settled into a calm, sunny start to the day with a crisp chill in the air.

Rime ice covered the trees across the upper slopes, likely the result of overnight and early-morning fog combined with a slight return of colder temperatures. Along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair (pictured), the surface was groomed into firm granular snow. Edge hold was solid, and I was able to link turns exactly as intended.

The surface began to soften by around the midsection of Han-no-ki, and the lower I went, the thicker that softened surface layer became. Snowmaking from top to bottom ensured complete snow coverage, with no bushes or thin spots anywhere on the run. I skied comfortably all the way down to the gondola mid-station.

The Maruyama Slope (pictured, upper section) had a loose, dry-feeling, groomed granular surface, with a few thin spots in the midsection that did not affect skiing. The Oya-no-hara and Karamatsu Slopes were covered with a deeper surface layer of softening granular snow. Visitors turned out quickly in typical fashion for the first day of a three-day weekend, and by 9:30 a.m. the Central Parking Area was nearly full.
