REPORT

As of yesterday, 3/22 (Sun.), operation of the Kokusai 1 Pair, the Sakka Kitaone Quad, and the Kitaone 3 Pair have ended for the season, and HAPPO PARKS has also closed. From today onward, access to the upper mountain is limited to the following two routes: via the gondola, or via the Nakiyama Triple → Happo Riesen Quad combination. This morning brought clear skies with a pale, spring-like blue overhead.

Temperatures rose quickly, and the south-side route at Usagidaira had already softened into loose, granular snow from the start. Likewise, along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured), the groomed surface had softened to a moderate degree. Since conditions were good, I found myself wanting to lap the Kurobishi Quad before the slope became too tracked out.

The Skyline Course (pictured) held moderately softened granular snow, and the loose, slushy feel became more pronounced the farther I skied down. A skier I met told me, “I always read your reports. I was here last Monday as well, but the snow is softening much earlier today.”

On the ungroomed areas beside the Kurobishi 3 Pair, the Alpen Quad, and the Skyline ridgeline, the medium-to-large moguls that covered the slopes had softened to a moderate degree. The Panorama Course (pictured) had groomed granular snow that had softened to a similar level. All open runs still had solid snow coverage, with no thin spots or exposed brush, making for confident skiing throughout.
